ABOUT THE ARTIST
Acclaimed by critics and collectors alike, Trevor V. Swanson is recognized as one of the most gifted and promising wildlife artists working today. Coming from a long line of talented artists, Trevor embodies the inheritance of inspired creativity passed from one generation to the next. He began painting at a very young age, almost intuitively developing an appreciation for the realism, detail, and tonal values essential to wildlife art. Through patient study, he mastered the technical skills required to create truly exceptional works of art.
Trevor began his professional career at the remarkable age of twenty, quickly earning recognition for his extraordinary talent. Within a few years, his paintings were exhibited in some of the world’s most prestigious art shows, museums, and private collections. By twenty-five, he had won multiple artistic competitions, including the coveted Artist of the Year award from the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep. These achievements propelled Trevor to early prominence in the world of fine art, marking him as an artist of exceptional promise.
An avid outdoorsman, Trevor never ventures far without a camera or sketch pad. His creative process begins in the wilderness, drawing insight and emotional inspiration directly from wild animals in their natural settings. This pursuit has taken him extensively across North America, Europe, and Africa—to the highest cliffs of Canada, the hottest deserts of Mexico, and the deepest swamplands of Africa. His passion for capturing rare and extraordinary moments has sometimes brought him perilously close to his subjects: he has been charged by hippos, chased by crocodiles, tossed by a cape buffalo, and even felt the rumble of an active volcano. To Trevor, such risks are simply part of the adventure that shapes his art.
“Anyone who has encountered a wolf eye-to-eye in the wilderness can tell you it’s exhilarating,” Trevor says. “Nothing compares to the grandeur of an eagle perched atop a snow-covered mountain, a sinewy leopard moving like a shadow across the desert, or a magnificent bear running effortlessly across a muddy sandbar. These are the sights and sensations that inspire the most powerful images on canvas.”
Trevor’s work goes beyond mere representation. On one level, it celebrates the majesty of untamed wildlife and the beauty of pristine environments. On another, it conveys the drama, emotion, and fleeting spirit unique to the natural world. Through meticulous realism, Trevor captures those brief, profound moments when nature reveals her essence. “I paint realistically because the beauty of life is in the little things,” he explains. “The moss growing on a rock beneath a wolf’s paws, or the light falling across a bear’s fur—these details breathe life into a painting and complete the story being told.”
His art also reflects a deep philosophical view of humanity’s role in nature. “I see humans as caretakers of our planet,” Trevor explains. “It is our responsibility to preserve the Earth’s delicate balance for future generations. The first step is opening our eyes to its mystery and wonder. My goal is to capture that beauty and show others what we have to protect.”
Meticulous, masterful, and deeply inspired, Trevor Swanson continues to create works that resonate with collectors and nature enthusiasts alike. He finds immense fulfillment in both the act of painting and the response his work evokes: “I love losing myself in the color and detail of a painting and discovering where it takes me. Seeing someone connect with a piece I’ve poured my heart into is always profoundly rewarding.”
Trevor makes his home in Phoenix, Arizona, with his family.
