ABOUT THE ARTIST

Widely recognized for his atmospheric tonalism and evocative landscapes, Simon Winegar creates paintings that invite viewers into a world of beauty, serenity, and reflection. Through masterful use of light, color, and mood, his work offers a welcome contrast to the noise and negativity of modern life.

"Creating moods that are often romantic and thought-provoking, my paintings are meant to provide collectors with a view of the world that runs counter to some of the more negative versions of it found in today’s culture. Sometimes it seems like we live in an ugly, unforgiving world. The point of what I do is to attempt to beautify the world. I want to create a mood that moves the viewer."
— American Art Collector, March 2008

Born in Utah in 1979, Winegar grew up in the suburbs of Salt Lake City with an unwavering belief that he was destined to become an artist. Some of his earliest memories revolve around Crayola crayons, watercolor paints, and countless hours spent drawing alongside his older brother, Seth. Encouraged by a creative household and inspired by his mother’s love of art, Winegar developed a passion for painting at an early age that would eventually become a lifelong pursuit.

Largely self-directed in his artistic education, Winegar credits much of his development to rigorous personal study, workshops, and the lessons of the great masters. An avid reader of art history and technique, he believes that studying the artists who came before him provides invaluable insight into both the technical and philosophical foundations of painting.

Since entering the professional art market in 2000, Winegar has established himself as one of the most respected contemporary landscape painters in the American West. His work has been featured in numerous national publications, books, exhibitions, and nearly a dozen solo shows. His paintings have been exhibited in prestigious institutions including the Springville Museum of Art, the Museum of Church History and Art, and the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art. Today, his work can be found in prominent private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad.

Though best known for his luminous landscapes and nostalgic railroad scenes, Winegar's artistic curiosity extends far beyond a single subject matter. He regularly explores figurative works, still lifes, seascapes, wildlife, and historical themes, continually challenging himself to grow and evolve as a painter.

"There is so much to learn and explore in the world. I don’t see why anyone would limit themselves artistically without a good reason. It is important to try new things and always be growing as an artist. Without continual stimulation and growth, the artistic mind becomes stagnant."

Whether depicting a misty mountain valley at dawn, the quiet romance of a passing train, or the timeless beauty of the American landscape, Simon Winegar’s paintings are ultimately about connection—to place, to memory, and to the enduring power of beauty itself.
