ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alexander Selytin is an accomplished realist painter whose masterfully executed still lifes, landscapes, and portraits reflect a deep appreciation for history, culture, and the timeless traditions of representational art. Combining classical techniques with extraordinary attention to detail, his paintings are celebrated for their luminous light, rich textures, and remarkable sense of realism.

Born in Zolotuchino, Russia, Selytin displayed an early passion for drawing and artistic expression. Encouraged by his father, he found creative outlets wherever he could, sketching on walls, fences, and schoolbooks long before receiving formal training. Recognizing his natural talent, he enrolled at the Art School in Zeleznogorsk in 1978, graduating with honors and earning certification as an art instructor.

His exceptional abilities earned him admission to the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts, one of Russia’s most respected institutions for classical art education. Entering at the top of his class, Selytin quickly distinguished himself among his peers, and his work was selected for student exhibitions in both Moscow and New York, signaling the beginning of an international artistic career.

After immigrating to the United States in 1990, Selytin eventually made his home in Provo, Utah. The landscapes of the American West and the rich traditions of Native American cultures profoundly influenced his artistic direction. He became particularly known for his highly detailed still lifes featuring Anasazi pottery, beadwork, moccasins, and ceremonial objects. Through careful composition and exceptional realism, his paintings honor both the beauty of these artifacts and the cultural stories they represent.

Selytin’s work is widely admired for its technical excellence, thoughtful subject matter, and reverence for craftsmanship. His paintings are included in numerous private collections throughout the United States, as well as permanent collections including the Springville Museum of Art and Huntsman Medical Center. His work has received recognition in major exhibitions, including Best in Show honors for his oil painting Legacy at the 38th Annual Sears Invitational Art Show & Sale.

Today, Selytin continues to paint from his studio in Provo, Utah, where he remains dedicated to the enduring traditions of realism. His still lifes, landscapes, and portraits reflect a lifelong commitment to artistic excellence, cultural appreciation, and the timeless power of representational painting.
